Dan ([info]melted_snowball) is visiting us, yay! He flew in Thursday. Yesterday we just kinda bummed around doing not much, then went to the Floyds' for potluck dinner and walked over to the high school athletic field to watch fireworks. Dan made guacamole, I made the corn-and-bean salad and some mango salsa. Today we've got planned an outing to Wen and then some board-gaming.

At games night on Wednesday I got to play Run For Your Life, Candyman, which is basically Candyland + brutal combat. It was amusing, though of course being based on Candyland there's not a huge amount of strategy.

So, yeah. Stuff is good.

This is painful to read:

We all know Tower Seven was collapsed via a "controlled demolition" as it was recorded in an interview with the owner of the build on national TV. He said he was called and asked if it was ok if they "pulled the building" meaning demolished it.

So we know it was a controlled demolition.

To say otherwise is to cover up what really happened.

Top 10 Foods Only America Could Have Invented

this is classic

Top 10 Foods Only America Could Have Invented

I particularly like the entry on the Turducken:

Such a brilliant-but-simple innovation, it’s hard to believe that 5,000 years of civilization couldn’t create it without us. Take one turkey, shove a duck inside it, and then shove a chicken inside that. From there you’re on you’re own, although it’ s most preferably enjoyed with sausage stuffing in the very middle, deep-fried, and wrapped in bacon if possible. Bonus points if you can figure out a way to enjoy some form of melted cheese product with this monstrosity. Some people have pushed to have the turducken become the traditional Thanksgiving feast, while others have begun to enjoy it on Christmas. But this invention is so uniquely American that there is no better day to enjoy one than the Fourth of July.

A day at the museum

This morning Ed and I met Dave, Daniel and Ken (aka DDK) at the de Young for the Dale Chihuly exhibit.

OMG!! It was so fucking amazing!!

Every room, every piece, I was in awe. The cocor, the shapes, the light. It was so incredibly organic.
We are definitely going back.

After the exhibit, the five of us headed to grab a bite, then Ed and I walked back to the car, stopping along the way to watch and listen to the Golden Gate Park Band at the Bandshell.

Love them!!

Ok, off to a BBQ and friends - time to get the 4th on even more!!!

Chihuli at the deYoung

We went to see the Chihuli exhibit today at the deYoung Museum this morning with Ed and Tom. I'd seen some of his work in Atlanta before, but there were pieces here that were very different from my past experience. My favorite of the day were these stunning purple reeds on birch logs. I was just blown away! If you're in SF, I highly recommend you pay it a visit!

gay cruise

Fuzzy's been wanting me to go on a gay cruise with him forever.

One of these days I'm going to do a gay cruise... if only to see how much I absolutely hate it.

You know how I feel about stereotypical gay guys.

With my luck it will be the Twink brigade cruise!

Well Happy 4th to Everyone

Lordy, It is the 4th of July already. My youngest daughter has been here for a week. I am definitely enjoying the time with her. We will continue to find things to do with her throughout this month. It is going to be an expensive month. I had her eyes checked , and bought her new glasses. Sometime later in the month need to get her a consult appointment with the orthodontist as to get his recommendations for her pediatric dentist. Plus she is attending a wedding with me later in the month and did not have anything nice to wear with her. She gets pushed around a lot at home, and ignored, or yelled at a lot because she is given more responsibility then a 10 year old should ever have. So I took her shopping at the mall to a nice specialty shop and bought her a cute summer dress to wear to the wedding. Yes I paid the over inflated outrageous price for it, but I felt that she for once in her life needed to feel special, instead of hearing that she was only worth something off the second hand store clothing rack. She knows I cannot do this all the time, but since she is doing me a favor in being my date to a wedding of a person she does not know, what the hell, she is my little girl.

Looks like we will be going to see Drum Corp International on July 12th, The wedding is on the 26th. Need to fit in Elitches, and maybe Water World. Then there is the ZOO. We just may need to go on another shopping trip, but to buy clothes at a much more reasonable price. As I need to buy some clothes too for my cruise in January. Now is the best time when summer clothes are going to be going on sale, YAY. Of course I will take her out for a couple more father daughter dinners. Like I said this month may cost me, but when I only see her for 5-6 weeks out of a year, I want to enjoy them with her. I do not spoil her, I just plan and try to do something simple with her each and every free day we have together.

As for Chris and I, Looks like August has a concert in it for us, then Aug/Sept may still hold a trip to California to take part in history. September we will be taking part in the AIDS Walk again. October is Balloon Fiesta, while November is the Madonna concert. December of Course is Christmas, then to start off my new year I should be on the cruise to the Carribean. Then end of February & beginning of March should be our short Birthday trip. So their is enough events lining up that time should pass along faster then I will ever be able to remember. Life is good, just need to learn how to keep up with it.

Holy cow

I have just been reading about Marianne Faithfull.

I wish I was the daughter of an Austrian Baroness whose great-great uncle gave his name to masochism.

I wish I had an affair with Mick Jagger.

I wish I had spent two years on the streets of London.

I wish I sang 'Ruby Tuesday' like she did.

Mary Murphy must die!

Please god, can you please kill Mary Murphy.

She really must die. And can you please make it a horrible and slow death? And could you film it and make sure we all get to see her die - over and over and over again?

elevator

You know sometimes i get bored and i have to just spend some money.

last time i got really depressed and bored i bought a house to pick myself up.

now after visiting with isabelle I want an elevator for my house. she's got a really cool one.

I wonder what kinda permits I need to get. I've got an end unit in a townhouse complex. I wonder if the HOA can stop me from putting in an elevator... and I wonder how much that would add to the value of my house.

old people love their elevators. :)
